A little gaming corner of the old web to get lost in.
CHANGELOG.TXT // NOTES FROM THE HIDEOUT

What's New at the Hideout?

I've been doing so much tinkering with this little site lately that I thought it might be nice to keep a record of it. Nothing terribly formal: just the articles I've added, the bits I've changed, and the little details I've spent far too long fiddling with.

// Simplifying the hideout

Goodbye to the Memory Stick

I've removed the experimental Memory Stick bookmarking feature, including its navigation tab and article save controls. It wasn't working as smoothly as I'd hoped, and the site feels better without it. The changelog will also focus strictly on changes to the site itself from now on, rather than announcing every new article.

// A little sidebar housekeeping

Fewer links, less clutter

I've tidied up the Quick Links box. It now has just three things: the Site Changelog, the guestbook and Link of the Week. The article archive and handheld shelf already have their own places in the main navigation.

// A couple of personal touches

A new name, and a little log

Article bylines now use Dash. I've also added this changelog to keep track of design, navigation and functionality updates to the hideout.

// Small sidebar update

A small change for Ciri's Corner

Ciri's Corner received a tiny but important adjustment: its little star became a turquoise circle, matching the rest of the sidebar. I'm certain Ciri appreciates it.

// A lot of fiddling with the furniture

RSS, coffee, and a tiny pager

Gave the RSS feed a friendlier subscription page, and made the Guestbook and RSS buttons share the mobile navigation row equally, with their little gap intact. I also changed the footer to read BEST VIEWED WITH A CUP OF COFFEE and added the tiny linked pager graphic.

That footer needed a couple more passes to get both sides sitting properly. Some things are more fiddly than they look. The From the Desk box was updated too.

2026 // How it started

A small corner of the old web

Handheld Hideout began as a space for gaming curiosities and personal projects that don't always fit into my other writing. The PSP-inspired layout came first, followed by the archive, handheld shelf, sidebar, guestbook and RSS feed. I've been refining the site's little details ever since.

I'll add to this when something worth mentioning changes, rather than every time I move a margin or nudge an icon a few pixels.
