A little gaming corner of the old web to get lost in.
ONE GOOD LINK / EVERY WEEK

Link of the Week

Every week, I’ll share something from around the gaming web that I think deserves a little attention. It might be a project by a friend, a bit of gaming preservation, or simply something too good not to pass along.

No One Lives Forever: Right in Your Browser

The Operative: No One Lives Forever is a game which deserves to be remembered. Monolith's wonderfully stylish 2000 spy shooter, starring the brilliant Cate Archer, has been notoriously difficult to get hold of for years. So imagine my surprise when I was sent a link to this effort: somebody has managed to get the whole thing running directly in a web browser, right in my guestbook here! No installation, no digging around for old discs, just open the website and start playing.

And this isn't some little tech demo, either. The site offers all 16 missions, the Game of the Year content, and even levels originally exclusive to the PlayStation 2 release. There's support for controllers and touchscreens, too, alongside a rather lovely retro-styled website that feels like something you might have stumbled across back when the game was new. The developers say they rebuilt the game's engine with the help of AI agents, checking the results against the original as they went. It's an ambitious bit of work, and exactly the sort of strange, wonderful corner of the internet I love discovering.

Go, play this now!
